Have you bought your ticket for Derbyshire’s most exciting new family-friendly musical?

Here’s why Mountains of the Moon is this summer’s must-see musical performance

Written by Chesterfield-based writer, Martin Coslett, and Surrey-born creative, Thomas Forbes Briscombe, family-friendly play, Mountains of the Moon, is set to provide a magical hour of heartfelt entertainment for audience members.

Premiering in the Lee Wood Hotel during the Buxton Festival Fringe on 21st of July 2023, Mountains of the Moon is a contemporary portrayal of the dangers of global warming. Based on the fight to prevent an impending drought, a team of animals must search for Honeybird, whose singing can make the rain god cry and replenish the African river before it runs dry. Working as a team to navigate the beautiful yet unforgiving African climate, Monkey, Owl, Bat, Gecko and Camel must work through various challenges and ultimately face Eagle who has held Honeybird captive.

Maintaining the same spirit and sentiment as the Lion King, Mountains of the Moon highlights the importance of courage, determination and teamwork. Conceived by Martin after studying a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Writing Musicals, his degree introduced him to a wide range of musicals which inspired Mountains of the Moon. Working together with Thomas Forbes Briscombe to complete the final written draft, Martin took inspiration from the incredible musical, WICKED. After developing the musical further through workshops with the Yvonne Youth Theatre in Guildford, Martin enlisted the expert help of musical director, Harry Style, to perfect the musical component of the performance. With elements of the musical appealing to both adults and children alike, Mountains of the Moon is this summer’s must-see magical musical extravaganza.
