January 25, 2023

Here at Rosewood Wealth Management, we take great pride in the extensive skills, knowledge and experience that each one of our highly motivated staff members possess. Offering support in all areas of the financial services industry, clients rely on us when it comes to dealing with their pensions and mortgages. Built on a foundation of honesty, transparency, integrity and consistency, our diligent Brimington Road team strive to provide specialist advice clients can trust.
As a business operating within a highly competitive industry, we feel it is important to highlight our talented team of professional women that make Rosewood the dynamic company that it is today. Starting with the brilliant Abigail Denman, this article will offer an insight into her role as a mortgage administrator. By utilising information provided by Abby herself, this article will detail the typical responsibilities of a mortgage administrator, as well as Abby’s personal experience working at Rosewood.

Let’s take it back to the start

After studying Level 3 Business at college, Abby’s passion for finance encouraged her to pursue Rosewood’s apprenticeship scheme in Financial Services Advice. Initially assisting Financial Advisors Shannan Pool-Gorman and Donna Robertson with general pension and mortgage administrative queries, Abby developed crucial skills in finance that enabled her to achieve a CF1 exam qualification in January of last year. Equipped with over 2 years’ experience working at Rosewood, Abby is currently completing an apprenticeship in Mortgage Advice as she adopts the specialist role of Mortgage Administrator within the company.

Building a seamless journey for our clients

When asked to describe a typical day at the office, Abby insists that each day is different; the individualistic nature of mortgage advice means that her job responsibilities are constantly evolving. Throughout the busy working week, Abby learns about new administrative processes whilst also strengthening her knowledge of mortgages in general. Working in conjunction with Director and Mortgage Advisor, Shannan, Abby’s responsibilities as Mortgage Administrator involve successfully operating the internal research system to provide clients with the best mortgage deals. After completing suitability reports which help to inform clients in detail about proposed mortgage offers, Abby then contacts clients and lenders to facilitate the chosen deal. The role also involves downloading and preparing appropriate documents for all parties involved, as well as liaising with relevant solicitors.

Another integral element of the job involves building good relationships with clients. After successfully completing on a mortgage, clients are congratulated by Abby as she telephones them to inform them of the positive news. Looking after clients even beyond securing a mortgage, Abby also contacts clients 6 months before their mortgage is due to expire. This creates an opportunity to discuss with Abby their options moving forward; Rosewood is often able to offer additional wealth management support to clients. Furthermore, by creating a positive working relationship with clients, Abby’s position as Mortgage Administrator is incredibly rewarding. This is especially true when assisting clients with the purchase of their first homes: a daunting process made easier by Abby’s professional attitude combined with her valuable mortgage expertise.

It’s all about the journey

Although the job consists of many positive experiences, it is also important to acknowledge that there are challenges involved with the position.

For example, given the country’s current unreliable economic conditions, Abby admits that it can be difficult for a mortgage administrator to keep up with changing mortgage rates. When considering the most challenging aspect of her role, Abby’s desire for client satisfaction leads her to regard meeting lender expectations as the most demanding task.

Despite any struggles apparent ‘behind-the-scenes’, Abby’s resilient, industrious approach to work means that clients would never suspect any pressure; at Rosewood we pride ourselves on providing a smooth, pleasant client experience.

Teamwork makes the dream work

Reflecting on what specifically enables her to succeed in her exciting profession, Abby believes that it is a direct result of the unwavering support provided by her Rosewood colleagues. Whether it be through the completion of weekly group quizzes to learn updated regulatory requirements set by Bankhall, or through regular team communication courtesy of ‘brew breaks’, Rosewood provides the encouraging environment needed by Abby to thrive in her chosen career. Furthermore, in the aftermath of the pandemic where it has become commonplace for employers to promote hybrid and remote positions, it is refreshing to learn that Rosewood operates in a traditional office setting. As a result of this, Abby can be found working from the office for the entire 5 days of the working week: a testament to Rosewood’s hands-on, personal approach to business.

Better never stops

When asked about the qualities needed to be a successful mortgage administrator, Abby believes that an ideal candidate must be friendly and confident; in a job requiring so much communication with clients, creating a welcoming atmosphere is essential. Aside from this, another important quality to consider is organisation. According to Abby, this is because a mortgage administrator must be able to manage time effectively, prioritising tasks depending on significance. One such task Abby must prioritise is familiarising herself with GDPR compliance. Forming the backbone of all administrative duties, GDPR compliance ensures that personal data is handled and stored in a lawful manner. As a result of this legal necessity, when clients provide personal information to Abby, she must ensure that she observes GDPR compliance in all dealings with them. Therefore, it is imperative that Abby regularly refreshes her knowledge on this subject.

The future looks bright

As we reach the end of the article, it becomes apparent that Abby’s job as a mortgage administrator involves so much more than simply dealing with administrative tasks related to mortgages. As the position involves working directly with clients, it is important that Abby displays effective communication skills; building lasting relationships with clients is an integral part of the role. To be an effective mortgage administrator, Abby firmly believes that a positive working environment and supportive colleagues are central to success. Thankfully, the accomplished team at Rosewood provide the perfect nurturing environment for Abby to progress as she completes the remainder of her apprenticeship.
