My first year at Rosewood

During my first year at Rosewood, I have had the opportunity to learn new skills and develop the ones that I already had. From the start of my employment year to date I can say that I have grown not only in the workplace but as an individual. For example, when I first started I was hesitant when answering the phone and wasn’t confident in client interactions at all but now I answer the phone, make outbound calls to clients, talk with them face to face in the office and communicate competently with product providers and solicitors.

The apprenticeship company, Simply Academy, have been very supportive with my apprenticeship as they have provided the resources for me to study. I have had regular catch ups with my tutor where they would answer any questions/queries that I had and they would help me with any area that I was struggling with, for example how to approach an assignment or if I didn’t understand part of my study curriculum.

During my first year at Rosewood, I have also had the opportunity to work with an excellent external trainer, Nick from CCM Change Consultancy. It has been great to work with Nick as he has given me new tools and methods that have helped to improve my work and personal development through well structured feedback sessions.

One thing that myself and Nick worked on was the Rosewood media interface and this helped me in becoming the Chesterfield Champion of the week and having a published article in the Derbyshire Times. I would write some ideas down, expand on them and we would go through these together. Nick would then give me some feedback on how to structure my work in a more appropriate way. This has helped me to write to a standard which is suitable for the industry I work in.

During my meetings with Nick he would say things or use examples that he had used or experienced previously, for example ‘measure twice, cut once’, ever since Nick told me this it has stuck with me as at work or anything you do, if you check it twice you will only have to do the actual job once. Another one we discussed was ‘Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will use the first 4 sharpening my axe’, this quote means that if you give someone a job to do, they should spend the majority of their time preparing for the task. Nick’s work has helped me progress and I don’t think I would be where I am now without Nick’s help.

A lifetime mortgage is secured against your home and is a complex product. To understand the features and risks, ask for a personalised illustration. Your home or property may be repossessed if you do not keep up the repayments on your mortgage. You may have to pay an early repayment charge to your existing lender if you remortgage. The value of your investment can go down as well as up and you may not get back the full amount invested. Accessing pension benefits early may impact on levels of retirement income and your entitlement to certain means-tested benefits. Accessing pension benefits is not suitable for everyone. You should seek advice to understand your options at retirement.
